2352 : Chris (aka Juan del Toro) came over at 1900 hours. We had some takeaway and watched "In Search Of" the Jack The Ripper episode and it reminded us both of being in England and walking the streets of Whitechapel and being in the same spaces as these terrible murders occured. Then we had another conversation that is purely private. After that little visual entree we proceed to the main feature which was "Cure" (1997) an amazing Japanese film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (no releation to Akira Kurosawa). The cinematography is just so good, as is the story. There was a cedrtain scene in which I stopped the movie and recorded some dialogue. (I won't say which for legal reasons). And then used SPECTRALAYERS to remove the noise and achieve an isolated vocal parts. I knew straight away that I would use that vocal sample in a new Parralox song.
We finished the movie and we walked to Chris' new apartment in the city. Only a few blocks from the studio, so yay! He is even closer now. Sadly he is leaving my apartment in St Kilda.
Then I came back to the studio and had to take a Diaz for my back as it was so sore, I could barely bend over to take off my shoes. I clearly overdid it at Muay Thai today.
As I was turning on the kettle while waiting for the studio to boot up, the lyrics "I fell in love with Tokyo" just popped into my head. I knew right away that I had the song.
I started typing these notes at 2352 hours, and now it's 0014 hours Wednesday 19/03/2025.
I bought Cherry Audio KR55 Drum machine yesterday, so I knew that this song would already use that as a base. And I just upgraded to Serum 2 in the middle of writing these notes, so that will be the main synth I use. Can I manage to write a minimal track Probably not, as I aim for that so many times and end up stuffing the song to the gills with synths. Why break the habit of a lifetime? But Let's see how we go.
Louise is booked in for our usual vocal session today at 1600 hours, so I hope I can at least lay down a basic drum track, bassline and chords, so that I have something to work with when she records vocals.
Notes end 0016 hours.

0736 : Had a sleep and woke up an hour ago and decided to change the chorus to a verse. Which meant that I needed to write another "verse". Then I realised I needed ANOTHER chorus, so I decided to go for a walk with Jack. It was still dark outside, so we walked around Wesley Church and I had some melodies rattling around. By the time I was on the way back to the studio I was humming a melody and recorded it into my phone. I just got back into the studio and wrote some music for the chorus and will now record some guide vocals. Louise is supposed to come and record today, but I think I will be going to bed after this. If I wake up in time, maybe I can at least catch up with her for a coffee. We can always record vocals next week.
0911 hours - Just added the Cure vocals in the hook and the intro. That section could almost be a different song. Hmm maybe it should be. It kind of reminds me of Cabaret Voltaire and my label boos (who I just sent it to) said it reminds him of early Human League.
