Thursday 12th June, 2025 1800 - Electricians came at 0800 to install a new Switchboard into 11i. Then I went to Sharyn's and dropped off Fritz. Came back to the city and went boxing at 1300. Had a teams meeting at 1445. Then I met with Haydn and Dannii at 1700 @ HGC, then Jack and I went for a long walk. I came back to the studio and had dinner and was watching PLEX. I just started Babylon 5 again, I'm up to Season 2. the Coming of Shadows, which is where it really starts heating up. I was watching Twin Peaks The Return and was struck by an urge to write a new song. I started work in the studio at 2030. 2230:- I started off working on the kick drum ,hats, snare and then the bassline, using the new YellowJacket I bought. Then I added some chords. Once I had a basic groove I started playing chords. I accidentally created The Key, The Secret chords and realised it would sound too familiar so I started again from scratch. I originally started in Db, but changed it to Am. I then changed it from ABCB to ABCD. Once I had the chords the melody came from literally nowhere.
Saturday 22nd June, 2025 0158 - I set my alarm to 1000 hours last night, so I could wake up (early) in order to be at St Kilda at midday. Except I woke up at around 0500 (actually I woke up many times overnight) which always happens when I know I have to be up early. I initially set my alarm to 0900, and then during the night I changed it to 0930 for some extra sleep. Then because of waking up so many times, I decided to push my wakeup time to 1000, because I figured that gave me one hour to get ready and 15 minutes to walk to the train station with Jack and Fritz. I can walk to Parliament Station in under 8 minutes, but when I'm walking the dogs I don't like to rush them, and I allow them time to sniff and pee on every tree. So a 10 minute walk becomes a 30 minute walk. So I drifted off to sleep again and woke up thinking it must surely be 1000 hors by now. Except the time was 1038! I had indeed set my dang alarm to 1000 - but in my stupor I didn't realise it was 1000 hours alarm that is my wake up call to ensure I can get to Muay Thai during the week, but only on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So of course it being Saturday morning, the alarm didn't go off! Needless to say I sprinted out of bed and got ready in a hurry. I had already prepared my clothes the night before, so I barely had time to brush my teeth before I flung the dogs' jackets on and tore out the door. The dogs peed on maybe one tree, and I got to the station in record time, a little early in fact. That allowed me to make my connecting train to Richmond station, so that I could catch the Sandringham train to Windsor Station. I actually got to Windsor 20 minutes earlier than I planned, so I messaged Mel and told her I would be early. She was en route and would be there at 12, so I asked her if she wanted a coffee. She said yes, so I went across the road and got us both a coffee and sat and waited for her. I had planned to meet at St Kilda this morning at 1200 and meet Mel to show her the apartment. That took about 30 minutes as we spoke business and made small talk. As we left the apartment I introduced Mel to Voula (who lives across the hall and is also on the OC with me). Then I walked back to Windsor with the boys. The train was unfortunately packed with footy fans, who fortunately all barracked for Carlton. Also fortunate was them all getting off at Richmond Station ( match was at MCG). when we got off the train at Flinders Street I passed a fellow passenger who was the tallest person I have ever seen in my life. I think he was probably 7.5 or 8 foot tall (I hate using imperial, but the only metric conversion I know is that 6ft is 180 cm - my height). He was young-ish, probably 20 years old, and as I passed him quickly, I felt a lifetime of sadness. I could only imagine what it must be like to live in a world where your clothes probably have to be custom made, and to say nothing of the nightmare of travelling on a plane, or even riding in a car. He was THAT tall. Oddly enough, I felt almost reassured as I walked past him. It was like being next to a very tall Oak Tree. This thought process only took a few seconds, but he seemed like a happy chap, with family around him, so life goes on, as did I. We walked back to the studio and I got ready, as Debra, Mark, Mitchell, Adrian, Amanda and Del were meeting me at the studio for our 1400 hour lunch appointment at the Hofbräuhaus in Market Lane. I've lived in the city for 32 years now, and the Hofbräuhaus is literally a 50 second walk from the studio, but I think my average patronage of that restaurant is once a decade! We had a lovely lunch, with good conversation. Matt called and asked if we could meet up so he could give me the CDs he brought back from Germany with im (he'd was at the Carlton v Nth Melbourne match at the MCG) but it as only 1610 hours and we had only just ordered desert. So we agreed to meet in the coming days. We left HBH around 1700 hours and went to the studio as Amanda wanted to meet Fritz. Mitchell parked his care in QV so I offered to walk back with him to the car. Debbie and Mark had parked at HGC car park and were going home. Adrian, Amanda and Del wanted to go to a bar for a drink, so I recommended them to go to the Flight Club (corner of Russell and Little Lonsdale Street). It had only recently opened up, I think in the last 6 months. Previously it was a Computer Shop and the other bit was the Dolyan Uiyger Restaurant. I walked the 5 of them to the Bar (with Jack and Fritz as they were itching to go for a walk, and also thrilled to see all the family again, especially after being alone in the studio for a few hours), when Adrian got a phone call from Debbie. She asked them if they would like to go back to hers for a drink. After a minute of deliberation, they all agreed to go back to Debbie's. Mitchell had already planned to go to Yarraville Cinema to meet up with his mates to watch the new Karate Kid movie, so we said goodbye (again) to Adrian, Amanda and Del as they walked back to HGC to rendezvous with Debbie and Mark. Mitch and I walked to his car in the QV building. We got in the elevator and I asked him which floor and he said B3 which was the lowest car. As we got out of the elevator I asked him what direction to go. He said we had fo find the stairs to go down to the next level. "There's ANOTHER level below this one?" I asked. I had no idea! Mitch found the stairs and we walked to his car. It was lovely to spend some time with Mitchell. I helped raise him from when he was in kindergarten, through primary and high school. I still see him as that adorable little 12 year old who was filled with so much love and joy. We spent so much time together (as I did with Adrian), it's so strange to see him all grown up now. But I guess that's life. We drove to the exit and I said goodbye as I walked onto Lonsdale Street, and Jack, Fritz and I walked back to the studio. I then did some admin work on the computer and watched a little but of my 4K upscale of Desperate Living which had just finished processing. Leanne texted me, so I called her back and she told me a few secrets and some news which I will keep to myself. I've known her since we did our Bachelor of Science together at ACU way back in 1992! Then I watched some YouTube videos and of course was watching synthesizer videos. The algorithm has picked up on the D-50 synth, so I watched a few of those. For some reason when I heard the Digital Native Dance patch, plus a few other custom patches the guy in the video was playing, I had the urge to start a new song. So I booted up the studio computers and then realised I should probably work on this song, which I started 10 days ago and haven't finished. I have a few unfinished songs, which I am not thrilled about. I mean, I'm not thrilled that I haven't finished them. Usually I can do everything in one session from creation to completion. But some songs need a little more time. I know where this song needs to end up, so I've actually scrapped the entire chorus (you'll hear a remnant of what it could have been in the V1 demo that I might release) and moved a few of the chords around and changed some to minor and some to major. I think I've now spent more time working on these notes than the new chorus! But I wanted to write this down, as I have a new chorus melody and wanted to get my thoughts of the day down so I can focus on the melody plus a BV harmony that also came to me. I can hear Matt Johnson playing his Jupiter 8 in the background on a YouTube video playing in the lounge area outside the Control Room. Ok, work now continues on V2!. Oh, I also just bought the ODC 2800 from Cherry Audio so will use it on this song of course.
