Tuesday 14th January 2025.
1420 - Just started the session. Basically the standard arrangement and tempo mapping of the original track. I'm having trouble moving snap point for multiple events, so I emailed Greg Ondo at Steinberg for help. Unfortunately he compltely misunderstood my request and thought I was asking how to move multiple parts at the same time (I worked out how to do that in the 80s!)
Wednesday 15th January, 2025.
1422 - Spoke with Angus this morning and then went to the gym quickly. Got to the studio about 10 minutes ago. Louise will be here in 2 hours, so I'm just working on the music for this track. Jack is sitting on my lap.
1720 - Just started recording vocals with Louise.
1752 - Finished recording Louise's vocals. I think these are the best she's done so far!
Thursday 16th January, 2025.
0130 - I just finished V2 of the song. Comped all the vocals and did a basic arrangement. I think this might be the best cover version we have done so far! I'm so tempted to include it on Holiday '24, because it kills me that I have to wait 10 months to release this at the end of 2025. Oh well..all good things...
Thursday 30th January, 2026.
1530 - Alex is here for work experience. He's been DJing for a while, and I saw him playing at Victoria Market a few weeks ago. We worked on this track and our goal for today was try and find a hook that worked. The slower one I did for V14 just seems a bit...slow. So I was listening to Better Off Alone and realised I needed an upfront hook like that. So I loaded Serum, and wouldn't you know it but the default patch was a square wave. I tweaked the envelope, mapped the frequency cutoff to velocity and added some Valhalla Reverb. Voila!
Thursday 5th February, 2026.
1705 - Alex just came to the studio, heres here for work experience. This is his second week. We worked on the track again, refining the hook line. After feedback from my manager we worked on the slower hook, but ultimately it didn't really work, so we went back to the square wave hook and changed a few notes in the 3rd bar so it escalated harmonically. We also did a few tweaks on the 303 bassline and some cleaning up of the arrangement. V17 will now be the final version. We are very happy with it! We will go to JOY 949 at Pride Centre in St Kila at 1830 to record tonight's show. Alex will meet Costa for the first time. Tonight's Neon Nights show it Robyn v/s Tove Lo.
