Bigger Than America

Written by Ian Craig Marsh, Glenn Gregory, Martyn Ware

Verse 1
There's a bookstore in town where no one reads
And those who remember will disappear
I hate to see them getting old
But they're better dead than read

I've just discovered something new
America called and put cables on us
Now it's crazy like Disneyland
The return of the soft machine

Pre Chorus
The return of the soft machine

Chorus 1
Tell the truth and damn the lies
Crushed by the fortune's famous eyes
Driving in a golden car
Bigger than America

Verse 2
Everybody can be a fool
You can't see it but you know it's coming
The cars are flying and the people dying
Now we're back on the wild side again

Africa screams hot, hard and mean
In Europe the crimes are in the streets
So don't cry, baby killer, daddy's gone a-hunting
And you know he'll be back again

Pre Chorus 2
The return of the soft machine
And you know he'll be back again

Repeat Chorus 1

Chorus 2
Loading up and having fun
Magic bullet in a magic gun
Shooting for the golden star
Bigger than America

Repeat Pre Chorus 2

Bigger than America

Repeat Chorus 2
Bigger than America x5

Additional Info :

Which Heaven 17 song to choose? I mean there are so many, and so many obvious ones to pick like Let Me Go, I'm Your Money, This is Mine and the list goes on.
But one song I always thought was brilliant and completely under-rated (the best ones sometimes are) was Bigger Than America, from the eponymous album. The second I heard it I felt the brilliance of the track.
I've looked for cover versions of it online, and was barely lucky to even find the original version. So hopefully this exposes the song to a new and willing audience. I hope you enjoy this cover version, as much as I enjoy the original version.
Thanks to Martyn, Glenn and Ian for many years of quality music.
