Tuesday May 27, 2025 1430 - I just got back from the vets for Jacks post operative check up. He had 5 teeth removed last week. The vet couldnt really get a good look in his mouth because Jack is too guardded. He gave me some sedative for Jack and we have rescheduled for next week, and hopefully Jack will be more calm with the medication on board.I was listening to Art of Noise (Ambient Collection) on the train. It's actually what I listen to when I travel. I rarely listen to anything else, but today I listened to Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys and some Sinitta, Rick Astley, Kylie and Dead or Alive. We caught the train back into the city and went to the GPO Box and it wasd lovely to find the Phil Harding Book arrived! I went to the studio and was going to do some work on One Man in My Heart. And I can't remember exactly why but I texted Costa and said I was thinkin of doing eithe Being Boring or End of The World (End of the World because I know that PSB had wanted a SAW sound for that track and never quite managed it. The closest they got was a PWL mix of It's a Sin). So of course Costa replied with "Being Boring" as that's his favourite song (and I know it!) 1610 - I've stared the basic arrangement of the track. I have SPECTRALAYERS stripping the extended mix into into the separate stems, and because I selected the EXTREME setting it's taking ages. 1640 - Jack gave me that look which means he needs to go for a walk. 1720 - SPECTRALAYERS is still rendering the file. For this version I decided to base the track off the Extended Mix of Being Boring (the 10 minute one) and use the aranger function in Cubase to easily create the radio edit. 2010 - I have Twin Peaks (The Return) playing in the background. I've laid down a basic drum track and reconstructed a lot of the typical SAW sounds from scratch using the LinnDrumm, Linn 9000, TR727, TR707, TR808 and a few other bits. I found some DX7 Bass patches that I had worked on years ago and one of them worked so perfectly I nearly cried. Then I used the BeatMachine UK VSTi plugin for the classic Never Gonna Give You Up string sound. I've created a basic Radio Edit and Extended version, using Neil's vocals as a guide. Louise was supposed to record vocals today, but we have rescuedled for next week. I want her to sing the unison octave vocal harmonies that Neil does. 2350 - Finished printing both mixes and will send them to Costa for his approval.
Wednesday May 28, 2025 1820 - Jack and I just got back from Old Melbourne Gaol, we caught up with the other dogs there. I'm not working on the actual instrumentation, refining all the sounds and putting everything where it needs to be. I recorded a basic chorus but it sucks, because I'm tired. 1930 - I bit the bullet and decided to record all the vocal parts, including the harmonies because I really want to finish this track tonight. I have enough unfinished songs and need to get back into the flow of finishing the song in the same session, or at the very worst, the second session. The next session will be for when Louise records the unison vocal parts, to complemnt the ones I've already recorded 2230 - I've added heaps of sounds to the break in the middle, including an infinite delay that goes for the lentgh of the break. I'm not sure if it's terible or not, as I'm going to print it and just see. I did create an automated volume ride to close the channel both before and after the effect. I think this Extended Mix is the best one I've ever done. It's like an old school 80's extended mix. You'll know what I mean when you eventually hear it.
Thursday May 29, 2025. 0221 - Just finished the session. I'm now printing Radio Edit V2, plus Instrumental, and Extended Mix V2, plus Instrumental.
