Parralox Celebrates 15 Years with release of “Tears of Faith feat Jane Badler” Visual
Song and Video Features Jane Badler from the Cult Classic, TV series "V - The Visitors.

The Australian electronic pop band, Parralox, fronted by out singer John von Ahlen, continues its mission to champion the synthesized wave pop sound of 1980s-era Depeche Mode, The Human League, and Pet Shop Boys. Its latest single, “Tears of Faith” featuring vocals by Jane Badler, is a down-tempo electronic dance arrangement about broken relationships and the hope for reconciliation. Its accompanying visual, directed by Leanne Hanley and releasing this month, works to elevate the song by injecting a humorous Frankenstein meets Reanimator theme. Essentially, tells a classic tale of looking for love, finding it, and then being destroyed by it.

von Ahlen plays the role of a mad professor, intent on creating his perfect soul mate. Through the power of computers, A.I. and a little bit of magic, he manages to transmute a blank slate into the perfect female creation, played by Jane Badler. It is love at first sight, at least for the professor! Unfortunately, his new mate was made a little too perfectly, and she rejects the mad professor via methods such as zapping his body and brain with lasers and cutting his head off. The “Tears of Faith” video is about love, loneliness, and hubris; it touches on the superficial and the spiritual.

“It was a load of fun to film,” says John von Ahlen, “especially the parts where Jane comes to life and has to kill me.” The entire video was story boarded, but Jane did a fair bit of improvising. “She really took on the role of homicidal android with gusto! I made sure the plastic protector was on the saw, as it could have been lethal to my sleek and tender throat,” he laughs.

Jane Badler appeared regularly on American television from 1976-1989. Along with V, she starred in One Life to Live and Fantasy Island. She also played the seductive snatcher of Alec Baldwin’s baby in The Doctors and caused a stir opposite Kim Novak in Falcon’s Crest. In 2010, Jane Badler returned to V in the re-imagining of the series.

“Tears of Faith” is the first single release from Parralox’s Genesis album. The album features vocal and musical collaborators from across the globe and, according to von Ahlen, represents growth for the band. “Genesis is more mature than anything we’ve ever produced, especially in terms of its songwriting,” he contends. “When the band first started, we borrowed a lot from the 80s. We still do today, but to a much lesser extent. We’re finding more of our own style and exhibiting our own unique perspective.”

Now in its fifteenth year, the band has experienced several shake-ups in its history. It currently features female vocalists Jane Badler, Johanna Gervin and Louise Love and Bass Guitarist Ian Burden (formerly of The Human League). John von Ahlen is the band’s lead vocalist; something that still surprises him.
“I never wanted to be a pop singer,” he admits. “I still don’t! I totally fell into it assbackwards.”

For years, John von Ahlen was a music producer, specializing in production and engineering for other artists. He was making excellent money, but it got to a point where he felt trapped in a soulless job. Anxious to make music for himself, he launched The Tenth Stage, a dark, gothic and theatrical band with an electronic element. It wasn’t enough. He had pop music inside of him, and it needed to be heard.

In 2007, he collaborated with vocalist Rowena "Roxy" Martin on a new track he had written, “I Fell in Love with a Drum Machine”. The song was a hit and led to the duo recording their first album together, Electricity that included the hit single, "Sharper than a Knife.”

What started as a joke transformed into something very serious. “These days, I work seven days a week on Parralox,” von Ahlen reveals. “Little means more to me than the support fans have given us over all these fifteen years. I try my best to convey that by engaging expeditiously with them all through social media.”

Filming for the “Tears of Faith” visual took place in Blue Tree Studios in Victoria, Australia in 2022. It was delayed, first due to the pandemic, and then by the tragic, untimely death of Jane Badler's young son, musician and American Horror Story actor Harry Haines. “This visual is one more way that Jane is carrying on Harry’s legacy by celebrating his life and artistry,” says John.

“Tears of Faith” is available on Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify, and all digital platforms now.
