Parralox - Lyrics

Parralox - I Don't Depend On You

I Don't Depend On You

Written by Oakey / Ware / Marsh

Verse 1
The night
So young
You could lose
You could gain
Your temperature's rising
Better pull into the outside lane
You always say you're not the jealous kind
Then you tell all your friends that I've got one thing on my mind

Chorus
I've played this scene before, you had one foot in the door
But there's always plenty more, don't try to use me
I don't depend on you, I've got my own friends too
I'll never be your wife, don't try to use me
I've played this scene before, you had one foot in the door
But there's always plenty more, don't try to use me

Bridge
It's cruel but it's true, I don't depend on you
It's cruel but it's true, go back to the end of the queue

Additional Info : Often credited to The Human League, this track was technically by The Men, who were in actual fact The Human League. Virgin had just signed the band and wanted a "hit", which up till that point the band hadn't really provided. As a compromise the band agreed to release this track, under the pseudonym of "The Men".
In a stunningly prescient moment, this track by THL Mk I was a portent of what was to come with THL Mk II. Although to be honest, there's no incarnation of The Human League that I don't love.
Ian Burden was going to play Bass Guitar on this track, but it was a last minute rush, so I decided to utilise his talents on other songs for the Subculture album (see Overdrive feat Ian Burden).
Mo Foster played the bass on this track originally, and I spent several hours analysing the bassline and recreating every nuance, albeit in synthetic form. This involved a lot of pitch bending and modulation.
I hope you enjoy it!
If you'd like to hear the original 12" version, you can listen to it on this amazing website >> Burning The Ground (thanks Paul!)
